Anthony Hernandez (b. 1987) is a composer and pianist, who earned a BM in Music Composition from the University of Missouri-Columbia in December 2009. As pianist, Mr. Hernandez has extensive accompanying experience, including the Pomme de Terre Community Choir and MU's vocal jazz ensemble Hitt Street Harmony. He has also worked several shows for Columbia Entertainment Company, including The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Jesus Christ Superstar. Currently, Hernandez accompanies the Columbia Independent School choirs, the Agape choir at the Missouri United Methodist Church, and is music director and accompanist for the vocal ensemble, comocabaret.
His piece "Clarinet Sonata (2008)" won Mr. Hernandez a place as finalist in the 2009 and 2010 Sinquefield Composition Prize Competitions and first place in the 2009 Young Composers Competition, Level II division. In April 2011, he had his recent orchestral composition "A 9th Street Overture" commissioned and premiered by the 9th Street Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Alex Innecco. In 2008, he was awarded first place in the MMTA Collegiate Piano Upper Division.
Currently, he teaches piano lessons out of his home studio to students of various ages, striving to continue teaching and playing as much as possible.
